Woman apologizes to Filipina after racist remarks go viral

(MENAFN- Asia Times) An American woman who made racist remarks to a part-Filipino woman in the United States has apologized after a video of her remarks went viral on social media.

In a video that was posted by Selina Cairel, a woman was seen making racist remarks regarding Cairel's driving while in a parking lot in Portland, Oregon. The woman named Sierra Measelle said Cairel didn't know how to drive because she was Asian and made other remarks about her parents, KATU television reported.

The video was uploaded on September 12 and gained almost 3 million views in just a week. Cairel said in her post that she wanted to make sure that Measelle's 'racist, ignorant behavior is exposed.'

'The first thing she said to me was 'She's Asian, she can't see. That's why she can't drive,' Cairel said.

Cairel, 22, is half-Filipino and half-English and emigrated from the Philippines to Vancouver, Washington, when she was 11 years old.

The woman in the video posted an apology on Instagram for her comments toward Cairel, saying her remarks were ignorant and hateful.

'I'm ashamed that I let my emotions get the best of me and I reacted in such a hurtful manner that goes completely against my beliefs and morals,' Measelle said.
