Doha: The National Workshop on Indicators of the Fourth Sustainable Development Goal for Education, organised by the Unesco Office in Doha, was launched in cooperation with Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The UN Member States adopted the Sustainable Development Plan 2030 in New York in 2015, covering 17 goals, including the fourth goal of ensuring fair and inclusive education for all and enhancing lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Dr Hamda Al Sulaiti, the Secretary-General the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science underlined the importance of the workshop, which comes within the framework of the meetings and workshops held by the Unesco Regional Office in Doha in cooperation with the Committee to achieve the goals of the fourth objective of the Sustainable Development Plan 2030 on education and the pursuit by States of a set of actions and priorities at the national level to implement the roadmap agreed upon at previous meetings.
Al Sulaiti, in a speech delivered on behalf of her by Hessa Al Dosari, the official of the Unesco-affiliated National Schools Network said that the State of Qatar has sought to integrate sustainable development, values and practices into public education curricula to achieve its national vision 2030, which harmonize well with the development goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan in general and the goals and objectives of Goal 4 in particular, focusing on quality targeted education, developing skills and capacities for individuals, and involving women in overall development.
She pointed out that the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science initiated in this context the formation of a Higher Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which includes representatives of the relevant ministries and bodies in the State. It has carried out many activities and consultations at the national level in order to harmonize national policy frameworks with goals and the fourth objective of sustainable development.
The workshop aims to develop indicators of the fourth sustainable development goal, in the national context, in line with national strategies, to track linkages with other sustainable development objectives.
