Protestors shut regional IEC office in Takhar
(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Supporters of a disqualified Wolesi Jirga candidate on Tuesday were closed the Independent Election Commission (IEC)€™s regional office in northeastern Takhar province.
Two days back, the IEC announced disqualifying 35 people from the final list of candidates in the Oct 20 parliamentary elections.
Hundreds of supporters of Asadullah Ayub, a disqualified candidate, gathered in Taloqan, the provincial capital, on Tuesday and blocked the entrance to the regional IEC office here.
Muhibullah, one of the rally participants, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the IEC had committed injustice with Asadullah Ayub and therefore they shut the IEC€™s office.
Another protestor Mohammad Shuja also warned if the government did not restore Ayub€™s candidacy, they would move on to close the governor€™s house and provincial police headquarters.
A number of others supporters expressed similar views.
Meanwhile, Sayed Asadullah Musavi, IEC€™s provincial department head, urged the protestors to reopen the office€™s gate in order they could keep continue their affairs.
He said if the gate was not reopened, it would lead to creation of many problems in the commission office.
