(MENAFN- Arab Times) Number of citizens expresses satisfaction over Awqaf decision

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: A number of Kuwaiti citizens expressed their satisfaction over the decision taken by Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Fahad Al-Afasi to set a number of conditions to be followed by mosques when holding Friday prayers, reports Al-Anba daily.
Dr Khalid Al-Mutairi said the practice of many mosques within one area holding Friday prayers is against the concept of unity and adds to the burden on Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs as the latter will require a large number of Imams for this purpose.
Mohammad Al-Mutairi recommended the need for coordination between Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and State Ministry of Housing Affairs to establish small mosques, as well as big ones for holding Friday prayers.
He affirmed that the aim of the Friday prayers is to unify Muslims, which can be achieved by holding them only in large mosques. Abdulaziz Al-Azmaa upheld the decision issued by Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, revealing that he had previously filed a complaint in this regard as Friday prayers were being held in mosques that do not meet the relevant conditions.
It is worth explaining that the conditions stipulated in the decision of Dr Fahad Al-Afasi included: — The mosque should be at least 1,000 square meters in size. It should have car parking capacity of minimum 50 cars.
The mosque should be capable of accommodating a minimum of 500 worshippers. The request for holding Friday prayers in one mosque should be signed by at least 100 individuals. The request should include a map of the area, identifying the distance between the mosque opted for holding the Friday prayers and the two nearest mosques.
According to the decision, two trusted individuals will be sent to take a look at the nominated mosques and decide if the distance between it and the nearest mosque is long enough to allow that mosque to hold the Friday prayers.
