DR Congo: 16 die, 34 disappear in boat incident


(MENAFN) The governor of the Tshopo province, in Kisangani declared that over 16 people have been killed in a boat incident on the Congo River, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The governor, Jean Ilongo Tokole added that 34 people remain disappeared as more than 100 people were rescued.

Night navigation on this course had been halted "until further notice", according to Tokole.

The incident took place 200 km from Kisangani, as the boat reportedly had passengers and goods on board from Lukutu to Kisangani at night with its light off.
