Baku hotels lower prices
By Ilhama Isabalayeva - Trend:
This year all the hotels in Baku reduced prices by 20 percent on the eve of the Novruz holiday, unlike the previous years, Nahid Bagirov, chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTA), told Trend March 19.
According to Bagirov, about 10-15 days ago, prices in hotels were higher.
He explained the price reduction with the fact that this year there will be less Iranian tourists.
"A large influx of Iranian tourists was expected this year, but the forecasts did not justify. So, the hotels were forced to cut prices," Bagirov said.
He noted that in all countries hotels usually raise prices for New Year or other holidays, as well as for large international events. "Last year, many Iranian tourists came to Azerbaijan, so hotels raised prices," Bagirov said.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, more than 65,000 tourists came to Azerbaijan from Iran for the Novruz holiday in 2017.
In accordance with the Iranian law, the citizens of the country pay a certain state fee before travelling abroad. Presently, Iranian citizens, who travel by air transport, pay $15, and those who travel by road transport pay $7.
Starting from March 20, the state fees will increase, and those traveling by air transport will have to pay $45, while those who travel by road transport will have to pay $15-$20.
