Turkey urges US to revoke Jerusalem decision

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Dec 23 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the American Administration Saturday to "correct its mistake" and revoke its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"I call upon the American administration to correct its mistake immediately following the solidarity in the UN General Assembly," Erdogan told a meeting of his Justice and Development Party in the southeastern city of Sirnak.

He was referring to the overwhelming support of a UNGA resolution that rejected US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and his decision to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied city.

Insisting on this mistake will fuel tension, he warned.

"The provocative positions of the American and Israeli government will only serve extremists and terrorist groups in the region," he said. (end) rs.bs
