Kuwait- Arab, Muslim poets reject US Jerusalem decision

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital aroused emotions of poets from Arab and Muslim countries, who gathered at Kuwait Writers Association (KWA) Monday to express rejection to the American move through power of words.

More than 80 poets from Arab and Muslim countries demanded recitation of their poems "but we cut the number to 20 poets because we are restricted to a certain time," Salem Al-Rumaidhi, KWA board member and chairman of its Cultural Committee, said at the beginning of the event.

"Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the capital of humanity and cannot be restricted to a race or a religion," Al-Rumaidhi added.

"We cannot turn a blind eye to the American recognition of Al-Quds as the capital of the zionist entity," he said.

KWA has a great responsibility towards Arab causes and should act accordingly, he noted.

Poets from Palestine, Kuwait, Syria, Egypt, Senegal, Yemen and Pakistan expressed their condemnation and criticism of the US decision. (end) wr.bs
