US grants Jordan USD 475 mln


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Jordan and the US on Sunday signed a grant agreement worth USD 475 million, as part of Washington's 2017 economic aid package to Amman.

The deal was inked by Jordanian Minister of Planning Imad Fakhouri and Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Following the signing ceremony, Fakhouri said in a press statement that the aid, which is expected to be transferred to Jordan before the end of this month, will be mainly used in cutting the kingdom's state budget deficit.

The latest aid brings this year's total US non-military aid to Jordan to USD 812 million, he added.

The minister appreciated US aid to Jordan's development projects in various sectors, saying his country looks forward to promoting and developing cooperation between both countries.

On his part, Barnhart said cooperation between his country and Jordan had reflected the sector water in the latter.

He added that thanks to US development aid, thousands of Jordanian had been provided with fresh health sectors, and that more than 400 clinics and hospitals had been built nationwide. (end) ab.mt
