Confucius, helping to understand China 3,000 years later

BOSTON, MA - 19 Aug, 2017 - The Dragon Trip is expanding its repertoire of high quality, affordable and off-the-beaten track school trips to Shandong, China in September 2017. At a time when China is at the forefront of importance on our global stage, it is imperative students gain an understanding of Chinese culture and history.

As the birthplace of Confucianism and host of UNESCO world heritage site Mt. Tai, Shandong serves as an ideal destination for students to engage in cross-cultural exchange and discovery. The Dragon Trip Learning Adventures will aim to educate students about the moral and political roots of Chinese culture through interactive workshops on Confucian thought, Chinese language, and activities such as kung fu. The Dragon Trip is delighted to offer 2 new trips to allow more of the world to discover Shandong's historical and cultural significance.

The Dragon Trip is excited to partner with Shandong Tourism Board to launch their new Learning Adventure Tours to Shandong province.

The 10-day Discover Confucius tour allows for extensive engagement with Shandong's Confucian history. Students will visit a local school and join-in on their activities as well as participate in an interactive workshop on Confucian thought. Extracurricular activities include hiking Mt. Tai and visiting Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion, and Confucius Forest. Students will also get to visit China's capital city of Beijing to climb the Great Wall and visit the Forbidden City.

In our 5-Day Language Exchange trip, designed especially for the International Baccalaureate's Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) program, students will participate in two school exchanges where they can practice their Mandarin as well as learn about Shandong's history and culture through visits to 3 of its cities. Students will be able to discuss environmental issues with local high school students in a moderated panel as well as help local primary school students create an English-language textbook. Extracurricular activities include a shao-kao cook-off and sketching session on Mt. Tai.

AIM OF OUR LEARNING ADVENTURES

As the world becomes increasingly more global in scope, it becomes imperative that we educate our youth to be tolerant, self-sufficient, and resourceful. Travelling and engaging with people from different cultures is the best learning tool to foster cross-cultural understanding and awareness. With the threat of prejudice easily forming when learning happens through a screen, it is important we create opportunities for students to challenge themselves in unfamiliar settings and in new experiences.
