Jordan Egypt, Palestine FMs: No regional stability if Palestinian cause remains unresolved


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Aug. 20 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, said Palestinian issue was the central cause and that regional peace, stability and security require basically bringing justice to the Palestinians and establishing their independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a trilateral conference with his Egyptian counterpart, Samih Shoukri and Palestinian counterpart Riad al-Malki in Cairo, Safadi also lauded commitment of the U.S. administration to working for peace.

"As leaders said, we want this peace and we will do all we can in order to create conditions propitious to realize it but the ball is in Israel's court", said Safadi, stressing that the Arab initiative is better able to achieve peace.

He said Israel should be engaged in serious and effective negotiations to reach that goal as soon as possible.

Safadi said this meeting comes during a delicate stage that we are together to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on grounds that guarantee the freedom and the creation of an independent state for the Palestinians, noting that the Palestinian cause is our number-one issue.

"This is our second meeting within the coordination mechanism which also comes in implementation of the directives of the Arab leaders who met on the sidelines of the Amman summit back in March following a meeting with the U.S. President Donald Trump who showed commitment towards a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement," he added.

"We gather today a few days before the arrival of a U.S. team to discuss with us efforts to revive the peace process", said Safadi.

For his part, Egyptian foreign minister said: "These consultations come in continuation of the first round which took place in Amman in the framework of the joint action to bring an end to the Israeli occupation, establish an independent Palestinian state and realize of the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.

"This meeting gives us an opportunity to deliberate on all aspects of the Palestinian issue and endeavors aimed at reaching a two-state solution, rendering the cause a particular interest as additional consultations take place", said Egypt's minister.

Palestine's minister, for his part, emphasized the importance of the Egyptian, Jordanian and Palestinian coordination at this important and critical point which the Palestinian and Arab issues go through.

He pointed out the importance of Islamic and global coordination ahead of the UN General Assembly meetings scheduled next month.
