S. Korean foreign currency deposits decrease in December


(MENAFN) The central bank data announced that foreign currency deposits held by banks operating in South Korea shrank by 3.5% in the previous month compared with a month earlier.

On the other hand, the data further posted outstanding foreign currency deposits held by local and foreign banks in the country fell by USD2.14 billion to reach USD58.91 billion in December.

The bank also stated that foreign currency deposits held by national banks plunged by 5.7% to hit USD49.52 billion in the same period.

However, the data marked that foreign deposits include those held by foreigners who have remained in S. Korea for over 6 months, and foreign firms operating in the area.
