Traditional Calligraphy Meets Modern Interpretation at New Sharjah Exhibition

Sharjah, UAE, September 29, 2016:Anew exhibition andfullprogrammeofworkshops themedaroundmodern artistic interpretationsof traditional Arabiccalligraphywill take place at Sharjah Calligraphy Museum in partnership with theEmirates Society for ArabicCalligraphy & Islamic Ornamentation.

Theexhibition will launch on 27thSeptemberand will run for eightweeks until 18thNovember.

‘Manifestations of a Character"; willsee19 local calligraphy artists display theirartistic experiments, featuringmodernlinear calligraphic trends inspired byArabicletters.

In addition, Sharjah Calligraphy Museum,in collaborationwiththeEmirates Societyfor Arabic Calligraphy & Islamic Ornamentation,will host arange of public
seminarsopen to all ages,aimed at thosewishing to improve their knowledge andappreciation of this fascinatingIslamicart form.

The fullseminarprogrammewill includelectures, specialised calligraphyworkshops(including ornamentation), an Ebro workshop as well as a familyworkshop on Saturday 12thNovember anda series of‘Authentic Arabic Scripts";calligraphy coursesrunning from Sunday to Thursday each week from SundayAugust 28thto Friday 18thNovember.

Sharjah Calligraphy Museum was opened in 2002 in the legendary Hamad Al Midfaabuilding in the Sharjah Heritage Area (Heart of Sharjah). Created by localartists andwell-known international calligraphers, significant works of art from the Arab worlddemonstrate the complexity ofthis vibrant art form and its historical and Islamicfoundations.
