Kuwait- US announce USD 25 mln fund for solar power integration


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON May 2 (KUNA) -- The US Energy Department on Monday announced a fund worth USD 25 million aimed at encouraging private enterprises to research private solar power integration into the state power grid.

The fund called Enabling Extreme Real-Time Grid Integration of Solar Energy (ENERGISE) will be open to software developers solar companies and utilities a Department of Energy press statement said.

It will aim to integrate power generated by rooftop solar panels into the grid alongside traditional utility generation.

"This funding will help that mission by supporting industry partners working to integrate store and deploy solar energy throughout our electric grid" said Under Secretary for Science and Energy Lynn Orr.

"In doing so we hope to drive down costs and encourage even more American homeowners and businesses to install solar systems" she added.

According to the statement since President Obama took office the amount of solar power installed in the US has increased from 1.2 gigawatts in 2008 to an estimated 27.4 gigawatts in 2015 - representing a 23-fold rise. (end) sd.bs
