Law protects 'expatriates'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Nov 21 (KUNA): Director- General of the Public Authority for Manpower Jamal Al-Dosary on Thursday reaffirmed commitment of the authority to protect expatriate workers under provisions of the labor law No. 6/2010. 'The law provides a range of benefits for workers such as increasing the number of paid annual leave days including the sick pilgrimage and birthgiving leave as well as the national holidays' he said in a press release.

'The Kuwaiti cabinet also approved a decree to form an inter-agency panel to organize the situations of the foreign workers in the private sector including housemaids' Al-Dosary pointed out. He noted that each governorate has a labor affairs department mandated to solve any disputes between employees and employers in a mutually-acceptable way otherwise the complaint can take the issue to court. 'The authority works to compel an employer to meet their financial commitments to foreign employees under the contract including the provision of a decent accommodation or cover the costs of the return home of any sacked employee' Al-Dosary added noting that the authority welcomes any complaints relating to worker rights.
