Qatar- QC completes QR77m school projects

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) carried out educational projects in 16 countries on the three continents of Asia, Africa and Europe, at a total cost of around QR77m from the beginning of 2013 to July 2014.

The projects included the establishment and maintenance of educational facilities at a cost of QR37,345,142.82 and educational sponsorships at a cost of QR23,565,504.16, a press release issued by QC said yesterday.

Total spending on running educational institutions was valued at QR14,667,843.82, with QR1,063,673.82 being spent on training and rehabilitation and QR9,460,591 on equipping educational facilities, educational support and the unconditional education project.

One hundred and twenty five large-scale educational projects were implemented in 35 countries, at a cost of QR67,613,003 and medium and small projects and contributions were implemented in 41 countries at a cost of QR269,610.

Education projects in the Asian continent covered Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia at a cost of QR45,266,020.

In Africa, the projects covered Tunisia, Mali, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Niger, Benin and Ghana at a cost of QR18,556,164.

And in Europe projects in France and Albania amounted to QR13,060,430.

The projects focused on poor nations and specifically those with disadvantaged education institutions; particularly those lacking basic educational facilities.

QC recently established a new school for basic education in Somalia, with the aim of contributing to raising school attendance in poor and remote areas, thus reducing the illiteracy rate, as well as providing a comfortable learning environment for students, in light of the fact that poor educational conditions are a major cause of illiteracy, as parents are reluctant to enrol their children in school.

The school, which cost QR182,000, was erected on an area of 400 square meters, comprising five classrooms and two management rooms, in addition to sanitation facilities, and will serve 250 students.

A school for basic education was also established in Indonesia at a cost of around QR 350,000. The school was built on an area of 350 square meters, with six classrooms for 300 students, in addition to staff rooms and student activity spaces, and health facilities for students, teachers, administrators and other school staff.
