The UAE U-19 national team beat Egyptian counterparts 3-1 in a friendly at the Zeyab Awana grounds in Al Khawaneej on Saturday. Ahmed Rabie claimed a double and a strike from skipper Khalfan Mubarak earned the UAE lads the upper hand as Mohammed Majdi slotted in the consolation goal for the North Africans. The two sides are set to renew rivalry at 10.30pm at the same venue on Monday.

The match was attended by Obaid Mubarak technical manager of the UAEFA Dr Mosa Abbas member of the national teams committee and supervisor of the youth national team Khalid Latif member of the Egyptian FA and head of the delegation besides Abdul Qader Hassan director of the national teams’ department engineer Mahdi Ali head coach of the UAE senior football national team Mutrif Al Shamsi senior football national team’s manager assistant coach Hassan Al Abdouli and keepers’ coach Hassan Ismail.

However the visitors took the lead in the 22nd minute after Mohammed Majdi fired home a lovely long range shot. But the UAE lads retaliated 11 minutes later through Ahmed Rabie with a beautiful rebound. Jumaa Rabie led a fast move and tackled the Egyptian left defender but his effort was blocked the keeper with a deflection that brilliantly transferred by Ahmed Rabie to level the result.

Towards the 42nd minute Khalfan Mubarak doubled the score-line for the UAE from the spot and the Egyptians were reduced to ten players due to the marching orders of defender Ahmed Al Sheimi. After the break Ahmed Rabie made every move to make the best of Khalfan Mubarak’s perfect through and beat the Egyptian keeper in great style to make it 3-1 for the boys in white.

UAE assistant head coach Majid Humaid commented: “The players have implemented the plan and the directives of the head coach during the training sessions. I think the players have played a big game and returned to the winning ways to end their scoring drought though they have missed a handful of scoring opportunities. The indicator is on the rise and this is something promising.”

The Egyptian coach Yasser Redhwan admitted that it was a useful experience for both sides. “I have called new players to give them the chance to show the best of them to compensate for the absence of a number of the lements from the current tour. Our players made some mistakes in the rear flank and we will work on them” he said.

“I think the touches of the UAE coach Dr Abdulla Misfer are very clear as the team performance has changed to the better. The brilliant striker Khalfan Mubarak was very impressive and the two midfielders Ali Salmin and Mohammed Abdul Basit did everything right as top class performers but hopefully we can do better in today’s renewal” he said.

The UAE U1-9 national team’s skipper Khalfan Mubarak hailed the strong performance of the players in their clash against Egypt which they have won 3-2.

“The players were keen to follow the instructions and directives of the coach who has focused on the tactical aspects during recent training sessions” he said.

“The next period will be very crucial for our preparations and the players have more to display. We need to work harder to overcome all difficulties. There’s a tough challenge ahead and we need to live up to it” he added.
