Iran strongly rejects US military intervention in Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran Sunday strongly rejected an American military intervention in Iraq following the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) take over of key Iraqi cities in the north. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham was quoted by official IRNA news agency as saying that Iran was following what was happening in Iraqi very closely. She underlined importance of helping the Iraqi government in its fight against terrorism. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had ruled out sending forces to Iraq to fight ISIL. "We might offer any kind of help and consultation in the fight against terrorism if asked by the Iraqi government, but I rule out our forces to be involved in operations," he said.
