Sharjah International Book Fair in dialogue with London Book Fair

(MENAFNEditorial) The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) is set to participate in the 43rd London Book Fair, which will be held from the 8th to the 10th of April with the participation of over 1,500 publishers from all around the world

The SIBF delegation will conduct a series of meetings and gatherings with leading international publishers and will organise an expert panel discussion on translation with the participation of Arab and foreign publishers.

The SIBF delegation will be headed by Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, SIBF Director, and includes Salim Omar Salim, SIBF Head of Sales and Marketing, Mohan Kumar, External Affairs Executive at SIBF, and Faisal Al Naboodah, Sales Officer – International

Highlighting the importance of SIBF's participation, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri said, "The Sharjah international book fair seeks through its participation in the London Book Fair to contribute effectively towards the field of literary translation. We will play an active role in helping Arab publishers to go international; to connect with key industry leaders and top publishers in different countries.

"This approach is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who spares no effort and provides unlimited support for the book and publishing industry.

Al Ameri indicated that the London Book Fair is one of the world's most important book fairs, as it sees the participation of top publishers and leading international rights agents.

"To make the most of our participation, the SIBF delegation will conduct a number of important meetings with publishers and organisers of book fairs," the Director said. "We will organize a number of visits to major publishing houses in the British capital. The delegation will also attend several events organized by agencies participating in the London Book Fair, with the aim of benefiting from their experience in the publishing industry and exchanging expertise.

Al Ameri said, "Through the panel discussion, which we will present in parallel with our participation in the London Book Fair, we hope to strengthen our communication with authors, publishers, translators and international rights executives. Together we will discuss possible ways to overcome the obstacles and pitfalls facing translators, and to strengthen the ties between Arab publishers and their foreign counterparts

"The Panel discussion offers us an ideal opportunity to network with international rights sellers and buyers. They will be invited to register their interest in attending the upcoming Sharjah International Book Fair and partaking in the SIBF's acclaimed Professional Programme, which is held prior to the Fair and sees huge participation from Arab publishers

The panel discussion organised by the Sharjah International Book Fair, which is titled, "Sharjah Book Fair 2014: Facilitating Translation Business Between The Arab and The International Publishing Communities – Common Cultural Pitfalls and How to Surmount Them", will be held on the final morning of the London Book Fair

On Tuesday 8 April 2014, the delegation will attend the International Publishing Industry Excellence Awards, a ceremony organised by the London Book Fair (LBF) in association with The UK Publishers Association (PA). These brand new international awards for the book industry consist of 15 categories including the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Copyright Protection Award, the International Literary Translation Initiative Award and the Digital Publishing Entrepreneur of the Year Award
