UAE- Ninja sword killer gets death penalty

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Fujairah Court of Appeals has upheld the emirate's criminal court sentencing of an Emirati, A.M.A., to death for intentionally killing his compatriot M.A.A. with a Ninja sword. Presided over by Judge Abdullah Al Salamai, and attended by Counsellor Shaikh Sohail Al Sharqi, Senior Undersecretary of the Appeal Prosecution, the court had unanimously called for the execution of the defendant by the available means in the country, and confiscation of the weapon used for the crime. The families of the victim welcomed the verdict with smile on their faces. According to the court records, the crime took place behind the Trade Centre in Fujairah city in November last year. The 35-year-old defendant, A.M.A., stabbed 36-year-old M.A.A., who hailed from Dibba Al Hisn, several times following a family dispute, killing him on the spot. Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi, Commander in chief of Fujairah Police, said the crime took place behind the Trade Centre in Fujairah, when the defendant used a sword to stab the victim in the chest and the neck. A.M.A. then surrendered himself to the police. "Police ambulance arrived at the crime scene and rushed the victim to Fujairah Hospital in an attempt to save his life, but he died later," Al Kaabi said. After following the legal procedures of interrogating A.M.A., the Fujairah Police referred the defendant to the public prosecution. The Public Prosecution referred him to Fujairah criminal court on the charge of premeditated murder. The court found him guilty and handed him down a death sentence. By Salah Al Deberky
