Swaziland Officially Changes Name To Eswatini
The ministry, in advisory a short while ago, stated that 'following the country's 50th anniversary celebrations on April 19, 2018, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Swaziland will now be officially known as the Kingdom of Eswatini'.
The ministry said the Mission requests all Permanent and Observer Missions to the United Nations to take note of this change. The new name, Eswatini reportedly means 'land of the Swazis'.
BBC News reported last month that this was the name King Mswati III used when he addressed the UN general assembly in 2017 and at the state opening of the country's parliament in 2014.'The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Eswatini to the United Nations avails itself of this opportunity to renew to all Permanent Missions and Observer Missions to the United Nations the assurances of its highest consideration,' said the ministry.
