100 Georgian soldiers join Resolute Support Mission

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): One hundred Georgian soldiers are due in Afghanistan to join the NATO-led training mission, a news website reported on Wednesday.

The soldiers from the 11th and 21st battalions are equipped with bulletproof vests and helmets made by the State Military Scientific-Technical Centre Delta.

For the first time, Georgian soldiers are joining the NATO mission with home-made war equipment made in Georgia, according to the website Gerogia.ge. The cost of the equipment is over $2 million.

€œToday, we send off Georgia's seventh deployment of soldiers to NATO's Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan,€ acting US ambassador Elizabeth Rood was quoted as saying.

The US had worked with Georgia in Afghanistan for the past eight years. €œYour valor, sacrifice, and honor protect peace around the world. We are in your debt.

€œYou work as ambassadors for peace far away from your families. We will never take your service for granted. We are truly brothers- and sisters-in-arms,€ the diplomat said.
