Azerbaijan opens polls to elect new president
(MENAFN) Azerbaijan was declared to have kicked off its presidential election, opening polls for people to cast their vote.
The country has opened a total of 5,641 polling stations within 125 constituencies, the Central Election Commission announced.
The election is narrowed down to eight candidates with President Ilham Aliyev of the New Azerbaijan Party among them, with more than 5,300,000 voters electing their new president.
The polls have drawn almost 900 international observers along with more than 58,000 local observers to oversee the election that is to come to an end at 1500 GMT.
