Some Exhibit Highlights

The Sea of Galilee Boat

'The Sea of Galilee Boat' is a model of a boat (circa 50 B.C.-50 A.D.) discovered in 1986 near Magdala on the Sea of Galilee coast. This model, constructed by master craftsman Scott Miller, is 48 inches long, making it one of the largest scale models constructed to date – and one of the most historically accurate.

Before the 1986 discovery of The Sea of Galilee Boat, only one image of a first century Galilean boat had ever been found – an image on a tile mosaic also discovered in Magdala. Dr. Shelly Wachsmann, author and winner of the Biblical Archaeology Society's Award for 'Best Popular Book Published in Archaeology' entitled The Sea of Galilee Boat, headed the excavation efforts for the 1986 boat discovery near Magdala and provided exceptional details (including dimensions) of the boat in this award-winning book. Additionally, the descriptions provided in The Sea of Galilee Boat confirm several passages in the Bible's New Testament, specifically regarding crew, size and fishing methods.

The Sea of Galilee Boat (pictured above) was discovered in 1986. Bible Lands Museum displays a 48-inch, reconstructed model.

The Taylor Prism or the Sennacherib Prism

The discovery of the Taylor Prism, also called the Sennacherib Prism, was attributed to and named after Colonel Robert Taylor (1790–1852) in 1830 at the ancient site of Nineveh. The Taylor Prism records lists of campaigns led by Sennacherib, King of Assyria from 705-681 B.C., against the Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Judah until the start of his final war against Babylon and includes a description of the tribute received from Hezekiah, King of Judah, in 701 B.C. This event is recorded in several books of The Bible, including Isaiah chapters 33 and 36; 2 Kings 18:17; and 2 Chronicles 32:9, and was recorded by the Greek historian Herodotus.

The Taylor Prism (pictured above), also known as the Sennacherib Prism, is listed in a postcard series by the British Museum as #5: "Assyrian monuments bearing on Bible history in the British Museum."
