OIC calls for backing women's development role


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, March 7 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday called for supporting women's role in societies' development and helping the females overcome challenges.

OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen said in a statement, marking the International Women's Day, that women's hardships worldwide emanate from instability caused by wars and armed conflicts, in addition to marginalization and failure to empower them partake in decision making.

He urged the OIC member states to boost women's participation in various fields.

Despite various challenges, many Muslim women have succeeded in balancing their social roles with that at the educational level, he opines.

He lauded women's exceptional role in regions witnessing wars and conflicts, namely those in Palestine, Syria and Yemen. (end) nsa.rk
