(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A two-day seminar on 'Children and Media' started at the Children's Public Library in Qurm on Tuesday. Organised by the Muscat International Book Fair committee, it is being held under the patronage of H E Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information.
Part of the 23rd Muscat International Book Fair, the seminar aims to raise awareness regarding media and the importance of media education among children. It is also seeking to highlight the role of media in developing their mind and skills.
The seminar is dealing with two themes, 'Media and children between reality and expectations' and 'Initiatives, experiences and applications in children's media'.
Dr Amur Mohammed al Aisri, director of Press School Education in Ministry of Education who was one of the guest speakers said, 'This seminar aims to highlight as to how to help children choose good media programmes and how they can protect themselves against the ill-effects that accompany digital media and social media especially.
'We have research papers revolving around this subject from different countries including Oman. We will also discuss the media programmes for children in Arab countries. Through this seminar we want to emphasise on the parents' role in keeping an eye on children while using social media. They should keep a check on the content being viewed by children and the people they interact with via Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.'
