Kuwait- Over 250 nationalities pulled, more to come

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: The withdrawal of the Kuwaiti nationality from 17 people is just a thread that will lead to the withdrawal of nationalities of their siblings and grandchildren, reports Al-Rai daily quoting high level security sources. The daily put the figure at 250.

Their nationalities have been withdrawn upon an Amiri decree which was published in the official gazette 'Kuwait Alyawm'. The sources said the files of the 17 people were carefully scrutinized before taking a decision because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Their names were not announced until it was certain and crystal clear that they did not deserve the Kuwaiti nationality. Two hundred and fifty men and women is a significant number, taking into account the benefits they have taken from the State on the strength of this nationality in terms of services, free education and scholarships to study abroad, employment, housing and healthcare, etc., which means millions of dinars have been spent on each person who did not deserve it. The sources pointed out that among those who are stripped off their nationality is a military colonel, retired officers and others who are well placed in civilian jobs
