Jordan- Cold weather forecast Tuesday, polar front to bring rain, snow as of Thursday night


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan.16 (Petra) -- Cold and cloudy conditions are forecast to continue on Tuesday across many parts of the country, with a weak chance of scattered showers in the northern cities, the Jordan Meteorological Department(JMD) said in its daily brief.

Daytime temperatures forecast today in Amman, the southern and the northern regions will hover around 14 degrees Celsius dropping down to 4, 6 and 8 respectively. Mercury levels in the Gulf of Aqaba will register 24 degrees sliding to 12 at night, the JMD added.

Similar weather conditions are also expected to prevail Wednesday with northwesterly moderate winds and fog formation over the hilly and the desert areas .

A very cold polar front accompanied by a depression centered over northwest Syria will start affecting the country Thursday evening, bringing tangible drop in temperatures and prevailing chilly conditions in most parts of the Kingdom. Rain is also forecast Thursday in the northern and central parts of the country, which will gradually extend to all areas, the JMD added.

Heavy rain accompanied with hail, thunder and lightning are also forecast to start Thursday night and bringing snow over the highlands. Winds will be northwesterly brisk with speed reaching 40-50 Km/h, the department said.
