Qatar- Emir receives rousing welcome in Abidjan

Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday arrived in Abidjan on an official visit to the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire.

Emir and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Abidjan International Airport by Cote d'Ivoiree President Alassane Ouattara. The Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, along with a number of ministers, senior officials, Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire to the State FToure , Charge d'Affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Côte d'Ivoire Shamsan Abdallah Al Sada and a number of tribal leaders in the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire were also present at the airport to greet the Emir and the accompanying delegation.

The Emir reached Abidjan yesterday after wrapping up his visit to the Republic of Guineaea. The Emir and the President of the Republic of Guinea, Professor Alpha Conde, oversaw the signing of a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in the Guinean capital Conakry.

The Emir and the President oversaw an agreement on the encouragement and protection of investments, a maritime transport agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Qatar Ports Management Company (Mawani Qatar) and Port of Conakry, MoUs in the field of youth, culture, sports, and food security.

The signing ceremony was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir, and by a number of their excellencies ministers and ranking officials in Guinea.

Emir and the President of the Republic of Guinea, also held formal talks at Sheraton Hotel in Conakry. The President welcomed the Emir and the accompanying delegation, thanking him for visiting his country. He stressed the importance of this visit in strengthening relations between the two countries, and expressed the desire of the Republic of Guinea to expand cooperation with Qatar in various fields.

The Emir expressed his thanks to the President and the Guinean people for their hospitality, and hoped that his first visit to the Republic of Guinea would enhance cooperation and friendship between the two countries to serve the common interests of the two friendly peoples.


The talks dealt with bilateral relations and ways to develop cooperation, especially in the areas of energy, economy, investment and food security, as well as expanding cooperation in other fields for the benefit of both countries and peoples.

Both sides discussed the current developments at the regional and international levels and the danger of terrorism and extremism to the region and to the world. Both sides affirmed the two countries' steadfast stance in combating this dangerous phenomena which undermine the security of the region and the world.

The talks also dealt with the challenges faced by some African countries economically, socially and developmentally. H H the Emir stressed the continued support of the State of Qatar to a number of African countries, especially in the fields of development, health and education.

Regarding the Gulf crisis, HE the President of Guinea and President of the African Union affirmed that the Union's position is to support the Kuwaiti mediation to solve the crisis through dialogue.

For his part, HH the Emir expressed his thanks and appreciation to HE the President of Guinea in particular and the African Union in general for their position towards the current Gulf crisis. The meeting was attended by Their Excellences members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir and Their Excellences ministers and senior officials from the Guinean side.

Emir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by the President of Guinea Professor Alpha Conde in honor of his Highness and his accompanying delegation at Sheraton Hotel in Conakry.

Bidding H H the Emir farewell upon departure from Conakry International Airport was President of the Republic of Guinea Professor Alfa Conde. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea Mamady Youla and a number of their excellencies ministers and ranking officials, HE Qatar's Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea Saree Ali Al Qahtani and a number of their excellencies head of diplomatic missions accredited by the Republic of Guinea.

The Emir sent a cable to the President Professor Alfa Conde and expressed in it appreciation and thanks for the welcome His Highness and the accompanied delegation were met with on their visit that provided an opportunity to exchange views with HE the President on regional and international issues of joint interest, in addition to enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in all fields to benefit the interests of the two peoples.

The Emir then wished HE the President good health and happiness and further progress and prosperity for the friendly people of Guinea.
