Qatar students in UK increased by 20% in 2016

The British Council in Qatar recently hosted its fourth annual Gala dinner for the Qatar-UK Alumni Network as part of Qatar British Festival 2017.

Held at the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, the event started with a Scavenger Hunt followed by a guided museum tour and a special visit to the treasury room led by Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani himself.

The event was attended by British Ambassador Ajay Sharma as well as more than 200 UK Alumni guests who enjoyed the special evening.

Under the theme of 'Healthy Lifestyle, the seated Gala dinner featured keynote speakers including Dr Sheikha Al Anoud bint Mohammed Al-Thani, Director of Health Promotion and Non-communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Public Health, delivered a presentation about Qatar's strategy to promote healthy lifestyle.

Noora Al-Kuwari, the first Health Coach in Qatar, shared her life-changing experience; Fahad Al-Ruwaili, Advanced Nutritionist and Co-founder of 'Low Calories, spoke about the restaurant's mission to promote healthy eating to youth in Qatar.

Kees Wieringa, Director of Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum, spoke about the 'Cultures in Dialogue touring exhibition.

Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani said: 'The collection is home to many items that show the scale of Qatar's international links, and this is reflected in the people in the room this evening. We look forward to perpetuating these links and hope to be able to welcome all of you back to the museum again.

Ambassador Sharma said: 'Britain is known for the quality of its higher education institutions, and we are glad that so many were represented at this event. The breadth of courses that Qataris study in the UK highlight the strength and reach of our relationship. We hope that many more people from Qatar continue to enjoy the education and opportunities that the UK offers.

'In 2016, the number of students from Qatar studying in the UK increased by 20 percent from the previous year, a statistic that reinforces the UK as the preferred destination for students from Qatar said Dr Frank Fitzpatrick, British Council Country Director.

The audience was entertained by Mr.Q, - Khalifa Al-Haroon - as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The event gave the audience an opportunity to network with each other and to reminisce about student life in the UK.
