Turkey and Azerbaijan are increasingly strengthening political and economic ties, Turkish media quoted Yalcin Topcu, chief adviser to the Turkish president, as saying on December 8.

He noted that the two fraternal countries are simultaneously developing cultural and social ties.

'Such an important project as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, implemented by Azerbaijan jointly with Turkey, contributes to the development of the region, Topcu added.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which has recently been launched in Baku, will undoubtedly expand trade and transport possibilities of all three countries involved Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. The railway will transport one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo at an early stage, and then its peak capacity will reach 17 million tons of cargo per year. Two trains from Kazakhstan to Turkish city of Mersin have already been sent by this route.

In general, Azerbaijan and Turkey are successfully cooperating in the political, economic, energy, military, scientific, technical, cultural and other spheres. The trade turnover between the countries amounted to $1.96 billion in January-September 2017, which demonstrated a significant increase as compared to the same period of last year.

Azerbaijan and Turkey have good and developing economic ties, especially in terms of huge energy projects envisaging the transportation of Azerbaijan's hydrocarbon resources to the European and world markets through Turkey's territory.

The two countries' trade and economic relations are based on more than 40 intergovernmental documents aimed at further expansion of economic cooperation between the states.
