A teenage suicide bomber on Tuesday killed at least 50 people after detonating an explosive belt inside a mosque in north-eastern Nigeria.
The teenage boy attacked the mosque in the town of Mubi in Adamawa state during the morning prayer, injuring dozens of other people, police spokesman Othman Abubakar told dpa.
The wounded were receiving treatment in various hospitals nearby, said Abubakar.
As many of the injuries were serious, authorities on Tuesday expected the death toll to rise even further.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack on Tuesday, but the bombing carries the signature of the terrorist group Boko Haram.
The extremists pose a steady threat to communities in the north-east of Nigeria and have also launched offensives in neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
Since 2009, tens of thousands of people have died at the hands of Boko Haram in the region, and an estimated 2.5 million people have fled their homes.
