Extremist jailed for 7 years


(MENAFN- Arab News) The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh has sentenced a Saudi man to a seven-year jail term for instigating sedition against the government and 80 lashes for taking hashish and amphetamine.
He was also found guilty of labeling the government as unjust and not following the laws of God. He had violated the country's cyber laws by producing and uploading a seditious video clip on YouTube to undermine law and order in the country.
He will also have to pay a fine of SR50000 and face a seven-year travel ban after serving his jail term. He has 30 days to launch an appeal.

Officers shot at
Meanwhile the police in Khamis Mushayt recently arrested two men for allegedly firing shots at traffic officers.
No one was injured and the police are searching for a third suspect according to Col. Abdullah Zafran spokesman of Asir police.
Zafran said the traffic officers had initially stopped a driver for running a red light at Al-Khodar market in Khamis Mushayt.
As the police arrested the man and took the key from his car a second car arrived with two occupants who started pleading for the detained driver said Zafran.
While the two men were arguing with the officers the detained driver went to his car started it with a spare key and drove away.
Then a car drove past the officers with the occupant firing three shots at the officers. The case has been handed to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.
