Lenovo 'remains PC leader'


(MENAFN- Arab News) Lenovo remains the global leader in pcs for the 1st quarter of 2014 a position it has held since the 2nd quarter of 2013 according to idc and gartner.

idc said that lenovo achieved a 17.7 percent global pc market share compared with the 15.3 percent share for the first quarter of last year.

"this was 10.5 percent year over year growth and is in line with lenovo's normal seasonal performance for the quarter. this performance added up to 12.96 million shipments for the quarter which is a historical high for lenovo" idc said.

yang yuanqing lenovo chairman and ceo said: "despite a challenging environment lenovo has again proven its ability to outperform the market as a clear global leader in pcs."

he added that "we are leveraging our leadership position in the $200 billion-plus pc industry to build new pillars for growth through smart connected devices (pcs tablets and smartphones) infrastructure devices (servers and storage) and ecosystem and cloud services."

"already these plus businesses account for 16 percent lenovo revenue. lenovo is not only number 1 in pcs but also number 2 in the pc + tablet category and number 3 in smart connected devices globally demonstrating the balance in our business" he said.

he added: "we see plenty of room for innovation and profitable growth in pcs and are optimistic about the future of the industry and our long term opportunity for sustained and success leadership."
