Kuwait: 5pc Of Entire Land Enough To Solve Housing Problem: Study

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Studies and Research Department at the National Assembly has conducted a study on the housing issue, reports Al-Qabas daily. Results of the study showed five percent of the entire Kuwaiti land is enough to solve the housing problem. It also recommended the participation of international companies, along with the private sector, in the distribution of 296,000 plots in eight residential cities by 2020

The international companies will bring personnel, equipment and building materials with them; while companies based in the Near East will implement the infrastructure, and the national companies will be in charge of the construction. Kuwait will shoulder the cost of the infrastructure without putting any additional charge on the citizen's apartment; and the companies will be required to recruit Kuwaitis, other Gulf nationals and Bedouns who should comprise 60 percent of the total workforce

According to the study, Kuwaitis and residents currently live on eight percent of the total land area; not to mention the accumulating financial surplus over the years, thereby, enabling the country to build a new Kuwait without any difficulty. The study also revealed that youths, below 24 years old, constitute 61.4 percent of the Kuwaiti society; so the number of marriages is expected to rise in the coming years. It also recommended the unification of authorities in charge of the housing issue and the formation of a council of experts affiliated to the Cabinet to oversee the construction process
