King Charles Highlights Global Crises at Commonwealth Summit
(MENAFN) King Charles III warned on Tuesday of increasing geopolitical instability, intensifying conflicts and growing pressure on international norms during his address at the opening of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
“As international norms and systems are tested to their limits, brutal conflict stalks our world, destroying lives and casting long shadows across the globe,” the British monarch said.
He also drew attention to the escalating challenges of climate change, environmental damage and rapid technological advances, describing their combined impact as “the crisis of our time.”
Charles called on Commonwealth countries to deepen cooperation, pointing to the organization as a platform for tackling common international challenges through stronger partnerships, expanded trade and investment.
The king also reflected on the historical consequences of the transatlantic slave trade, recognizing its enduring impact on Caribbean countries and other members of the Commonwealth.
“That shameful chapter of history is one that fills my heart with horror and my soul with the most profound personal sorrow,” he said.
