Ukraine, EU Enlargement And Energy To Top Agenda Of Visegrad Four Summit

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was reported by the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, which will represent the country at the meeting, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The main topics of the two-day summit will be support for Ukraine, enlargement of the European Union, affordable energy, and other pressing international and European issues, sources at the presidential office said.

They noted that these issues are important for the security and prosperity of the people not only in the V4 region but also across the EU.

“The first important item on the agenda will be support for Ukraine, its post-war recovery and EU membership. October's diplomatic initiatives have revived the prospect of negotiations between the United States, Ukraine and Russia. President Petr Pavel believes that European countries must take part in negotiations with Russia with a united position, and that discussions on ending the war should take place alongside negotiations on the future European security architecture and the development of a future modus vivendi (an agreement between parties with differing views – ed.) with Russia,” the sources said.

The participants will also discuss the results of the U.S. elections.

In addition to the leaders of the four countries, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will attend the summit.

The V4 format was initiated on February 15, 1991, to promote mutual support among Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in their joint efforts to integrate into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Slovakia currently holds the group's rotating presidency, with the Czech Republic set to take over on June 1, 2027.

As reported, the foreign ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary met in Bratislava on September 1 as part of a Visegrad Group (V4+) meeting. It was the first meeting of the foreign ministers of the four countries since March 2024.

The prime ministers of the V4 countries last met on June 23.
