UK Cuts Cybersecurity Certification Costs for Smaller Businesses
(MENAFN) Thousands of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises across the United Kingdom will receive a 75% reduction in the cost of government-backed Cyber Essentials certification as authorities seek to strengthen their defenses against growing online threats.
Businesses eligible for the initiative will be able to obtain the certification for as little as £80 ($108), with the maximum fee set at £125, excluding value-added tax. The program is intended to help organizations protect themselves against some of the most widespread cyber risks.
The government said the discounted scheme would make cybersecurity assistance more affordable, highlighting estimates that a major cyberattack against a UK company or organization costs an average of £195,000 ($261,539).
Cybersecurity Minister Liz Lloyd stressed that smaller enterprises must also be equipped to respond to increasingly sophisticated online threats.
"We are not going to sit back and let malicious actors take advantage -- we will back our SMEs and help them be protected and secure," she said.
Authorities are also collaborating with more than 230 companies that have joined the Cyber Resilience Pledge, an initiative focused on improving protection throughout business supply chains.
Participating companies can nominate groups of small and medium-sized enterprises for free Cyber Essentials certification. Some selected businesses will also receive complimentary guidance from cybersecurity advisers to help them complete the certification process.
