Italy Seeks Deeper Security Cooperation with Türkiye within NATO
(MENAFN) Italy views Türkiye as an essential partner in safeguarding European security and aims to expand bilateral coordination on regional stability, NATO priorities and international initiatives, Italian Ambassador to Türkiye Giuseppe Manzo said in an interview.
"We really believe that Türkiye has a crucial role in our security," Manzo said, underlining Ankara's importance to Europe's broader security architecture and its contribution to NATO.
"I think it's fair to say that we both want more Europe in NATO," he added.
The ambassador identified closer political engagement on security matters as one of his main priorities, pointing to the upcoming NATO summit, the 4+4 meeting and COP31 as important platforms for strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
He also highlighted common concerns regarding security challenges affecting NATO's eastern and southern boundaries, stressing the need for both countries to respond to evolving threats.
"We need to adapt to new challenges and find new answers to new questions and new threats," he said.
"I think Italy and Türkiye are very well equipped to do this."
Manzo further noted that the countries' strategic geographical positions provide an important foundation for addressing regional and international issues. Italy's location in the Mediterranean and Türkiye's position between Europe and Asia offer both nations opportunities to contribute to broader security efforts.
"By nature, we are well positioned to develop new answers and new tools to address both old problems and new challenges," he said.
