Türkiye, Uzbekistan Seal 5 New Deals, Eye USD5B Annual Trade

Date:

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Uzbekistan signed a fresh package of trade agreements on bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, setting a short-term target of $5 billion in annual trade.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks in Ankara on the sidelines of the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The two leaders focused on trade, investment, mining, transportation and the defense industry.

The talks build on Mirziyoyev’s January visit to Türkiye for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, which produced agreements on health, energy, finance and culture.

In Ankara, the leaders signed five additional agreements covering trade, social security and business support. Among them is a protocol widening the scope of the countries’ preferential trade agreement. They also created the Türkiye-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, designed to drive joint commercial projects and tighten links between public institutions and private sectors.

The new frameworks are expected to lift bilateral trade from nearly $3.1 billion last year toward a medium-term goal of $10 billion.
