Philippine Foreign Minister Visits Myanmar to Deliver Humanitarian Aid

Date:

(MENAFN) Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Theresa Lazaro arrived in Myanmar on Wednesday to oversee a humanitarian mission ahead of next month's Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.

Lazaro headed an ASEAN Monitoring Team delegation to the AHA Centre in Taunggyi, located in southern Shan State. Representatives from ASEAN member countries and Japan also participated in the mission, according to reports.

During the visit, the delegation distributed rice supplies, family assistance packages and hygiene kits to people displaced from their homes by the ongoing crisis.

Lazaro is also scheduled to lead a symbolic handover ceremony involving a religious building as part of her visit.

The mission seeks to strengthen humanitarian support for affected communities and internally displaced people across Myanmar.

The Philippines, which currently holds the ASEAN chairmanship, is leading the regional bloc's efforts during this period.
