Turkic States Foreign Ministers Gather in Ankara for Summit
(MENAFN) Foreign ministers from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) convened in Türkiye’s capital, Ankara, on Thursday for a council meeting held ahead of the organization’s 13th summit.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan chaired the gathering, according to diplomatic sources. Ministers from the participating countries posed for a group photograph before the talks began.
The summit, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will be hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Deed.”
Founded in 2009 under the name Turkic Council, the organization adopted its current title at its eighth summit in Istanbul in 2021.
Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are full members. Turkmenistan, Hungary, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Economic Cooperation Organization participate as observers.
The OTS said the summit would gather member-state leaders, senior representatives from observer states and the organization’s secretary general to “discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation within the Organization,” alongside other matters.
According to the organization, leaders are expected to assess progress in key areas of cooperation, with particular attention to “further strengthening unity and solidarity” among Turkic countries and implementing the Turkic World Vision 2040.
The meeting will also oversee the transfer of the organization’s chairmanship from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. Participants are expected to discuss the appointment of a new secretary general and establish strategic priorities “for the forthcoming period.”
“The Heads of State are expected to adopt the Ankara Declaration, together with a number of decisions and documents aimed at deepening cooperation and further strengthening the institutional framework of the OTS,” it added.
