Netanyahu Bloc Leads Israeli Election Count Without Majority
(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political bloc was projected to obtain 53 seats in the Knesset on Wednesday, following the completion of counting for regular ballots, while more than 500,000 special ballots remained to be processed, according to reports.
The opposition alliance headed by Gadi Eisenkot was expected to secure 48 seats, while predominantly Arab parties were projected to gain 19 seats, according to reports.
Neither of the two main political camps was forecast to reach the 61 seats needed to command a majority in Israel’s 120-member parliament.
Netanyahu’s Likud party was projected to remain the largest parliamentary faction with 26 seats, a decline from the 32 it won in the 2022 election. Eisenkot’s Yashar party followed with 21 seats in its first parliamentary contest, according to reports.
The Together (Beyachad) alliance led by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was expected to win 12 seats, also marking its first participation in a parliamentary election.
The predominantly Arab Joint List was projected to secure 12 seats, while Ra’am was expected to obtain seven. Together, the two parties would hold 19 seats, compared with a combined total of 10 in the previous election.
The Democrats were forecast to win eight seats, doubling the four seats secured by their predecessor parties, Labor and Meretz, in the 2022 vote.
