Chris Brown Receives Suspended Prison Sentence Over London Nightclub Assault

Date:

(MENAFN) US singer Chris Brown has received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, over an assault at a nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on Feb. 19, 2023.

Brown, 37, pleaded guilty in July to affray in connection with the incident, which left music producer Abe Diaw with head and knee injuries that required hospital treatment.

Under UK law, affray is a public order offense involving the use or threat of violence in public circumstances severe enough to make an ordinary person fear for their safety.

Closed-circuit television footage showed Brown striking Diaw on the head with a glass bottle.

During Monday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated use of the bottle as “plainly dangerous.”

The judge acknowledged that the confrontation lasted only a short time but emphasized that it was also “intense.”

Earlier, Brown’s defense lawyers characterized the incident as “ugly and unattractive,” while arguing that it was also “very short-lived.”

Brown’s vocal coach, Florida rapper Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also pleaded guilty to affray and is being sentenced in connection with the case.
