Russia Sends Tu-95MS Bombers Over Bering, Chukchi Seas
(MENAFN) Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers flew a marathon mission of more than 13 hours over the neutral waters of the Bering and Chukchi seas, the Defense Ministry announced Monday.
The long-range aircraft, operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces, were refueled in flight during the sortie, the ministry said in a statement. Su-35S fighter jets escorted the bombers throughout the flight.
Over some stretches of the route, the bombers were also shadowed by fighter jets from other countries, according to the ministry.
The ministry described the mission as a scheduled flight and said Russian long-range aviation crews routinely operate over neutral waters of the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Pacific Ocean, and the Baltic and Black seas.
It added that every flight by Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft is carried out in strict compliance with international rules governing the use of airspace.
