Le Pen Pledges to Restore “Rule of Law” as 2027 Race Heats Up

Date:

(MENAFN) French far-right National Rally (RN) leader Marine Le Pen promised on Monday to restore the “rule of law” in France, saying criminals and organized crime networks have eroded security and the authority of the state.

“We will restore the rule of law. Who can say that there is a rule of law when criminals are not punished, when mafias impose their law in the neighborhoods?” Le Pen told a National Rally’s congress in Orleans.

A “major change of power”
Laying out her political vision ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Le Pen called for a “major change of power,” casting her project as the answer to widespread political “inertia.”

She framed her platform as a national renewal, using the Renaissance as a symbol of France’s future and promising gains in security, prosperity, justice and creativity.

Le Pen also named RN President Jordan Bardella as her pick for prime minister if she wins the presidency. She described her proposed administration as an “open and pluralistic government” built on national unity.

Unrest and a disrupted rally
Her speech comes amid a tense social climate. Thousands marched in major French cities on Saturday to protest the rising cost of living. Similar nationwide demonstrations a week earlier led to unrest, following student protests over the poor state of the country’s schools.

The Orleans rally was briefly disrupted. Bardella urged supporters to stay calm and sing the French national anthem while security personnel intervened.
