Belarus Issues Urgent Travel Warning for 6 European Nations
(MENAFN) Belarus told its citizens on Sunday to avoid nonessential trips to France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Albania, pointing to unrest over pensions, housing, education and corruption.
In its advisory, the Foreign Ministry said the political climate in several European states had “deteriorated sharply,” and it cited mass demonstrations, what it described as disproportionate force by police and arbitrary detentions.
The ministry cautioned that authorities in the affected countries could impose curfews or declare states of emergency, which may disrupt public transport, internet service and communications.
Belarusians already in these countries were told to stay vigilant, steer clear of crowds and protest zones, and monitor announcements from local authorities and Belarusian diplomatic missions.
Should conditions worsen, the ministry advised citizens to depart by whatever commercial routes remain available.
It also warned that help from Belarusian officials abroad could be harder to obtain.
“We also draw attention to the possibility that consular and legal assistance may be less accessible because Belarusian diplomatic missions in these countries have limited staff. We recommend saving the emergency contact details of these missions in advance,” it added.
