Iranian President Heads to Russia for Gas Summit, Putin Talks

Date:

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to travel to Russia on Monday night to participate in a summit of gas-exporting nations in Moscow and meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to reports.

Pezeshkian is expected to attend the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit on Tuesday and deliver an address. During his one-day visit, he may also hold bilateral discussions with leaders from other participating countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced Friday that Pezeshkian and Putin would meet in Moscow this week.

In a post on Instagram, Araghchi said the talks would follow up on discussions held during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to Tehran on Oct. 19.

The meeting is expected to cover cooperation between the two countries, alongside regional and international developments.

The GECF is an intergovernmental organization that brings together major natural gas-producing countries, including Iran, Russia, Qatar and Algeria.
