Saudi, Turkish, Pakistani Heavyweights Converge on Tehran
(MENAFN) Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye are set to hold security talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran, officials said Monday, in a high-level push for a regional security framework.
Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced the visit on Iranian television. He said the delegations represent the Mecca Alliance and are traveling as part of efforts to build a security architecture for West Asia.
According to Bagheri, the delegation will include Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir and a senior Turkish official. Turkish security sources told a state news agency that the Turkish representative will be National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin.
The visitors will sit down with Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, to address regional security, Bagheri said. He added that Tehran opposes intervention and influence by outside powers in the region.
Bagheri gave no date for the meeting, though Iranian media reported it would take place Monday.
Alliance aims to defuse tensions
Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Public Diplomacy Raid Krimly confirmed the trip in a post on US social media platform X. He said the delegation would also meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in addition to Rezaei.
Krimly described the visit as part of Mecca Alliance efforts to reduce tensions amid the ongoing US-Iran crisis. The talks, he said, will also aim to advance dialogue and diplomatic solutions while backing mediation led by Qatar and Pakistan.
He said the contacts underscore the alliance members’ role in strengthening regional security and stability, and their resolve to work with all countries in the region toward that end.
