Türkiye Holds Talks with Libyan Leaders After Maritime Agreement Approval
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate telephone conversations Tuesday with Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe and Saddam Haftar, deputy commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, following Libya's parliamentary approval of a major maritime agreement with Türkiye.
During the calls, Fidan expressed appreciation to both officials after Libya's House of Representatives endorsed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Delimitation of Maritime Jurisdiction Areas between the two countries, according to official sources.
The parliamentary decision marks a reversal of the legislature's earlier position, as lawmakers had previously rejected the agreement before approving it on Tuesday.
Türkiye and Libya originally signed the maritime delimitation agreement in November 2019. The arrangement establishes the boundaries of their respective maritime jurisdiction zones in the Mediterranean Sea.
